'I Would Rather Be Pole Dancing'
was pleased to have joined Pole Dance Schools
Nationwide in celebrating this years,
UK Pole Dance Day 2010!
What is UK Pole Dance Day?
UK Pole Dance Day is a national, annual event held on 1 May that aims to promote understanding of pole dance as a legitimate art form and form of exercise.
It was founded in 2009 by the Equity Pole Dancers' Working Party. The Equity Pole Dancers' Working Party is formed of a group of Equity members and professional pole dancers who meet quarterly to discuss issues relevant to the pole dance community.
The working party aims to improve the working conditions of all pole dancers and promote understanding and acceptance of this oft-maligned art form.
UKPDD is a non-profit event and participation is entirely voluntary.
Pole Dance schools across the UK are encouraged to organise showcases, demonstrations, taster sessions and jams (where pole dancers gather to play), that are open to the public and that demonstrate the strength, grace and agility needed to excel at this complex dance genre.
May Day was chosen as the date to encourage a better understanding of pole dance. Traditional maypole dances form part of the May Day celebrations and UKPDD builds on this great tradition.
